5 Ways to Save Money While Traveling

Budget? We got you! As a mother of 3, I understand that saving every penny is a good thing right?

Of course, we love making memories and traveling can be a bit pricey however, with these hacks, you can actually save money while traveling!

  1. Discounts- Most vacations have savings rates that can save you money while traveling. Always ask your travel agent if they can find you special rates or deals on your next adventure. We will sure try our best!

  2. Bring snacks- I am queen of snack packing on every vacation! You know the old saying “mom, I’m hungry”. Of course you are honey! I typically buy small snack bags for our kids to prevent many stops along the way.

  3. Be flexible with your travel dates. This is important when it comes to airfare.

  4. Find free attractions- not all things cost money. Relax at the local beach, find free museums.

  5. Travel off season- Not only do you not deal with crowds, you also may receive better rates when it is less busy.

Packing Essentials 101

You booked a trip but now you do not know what to pack? Yes, I have been there! Per my last minute packing, I have realized that I tend to over pack. I have compiled a list of MUSTS when traveling.
For those who plan to take a cruise:

  1. Bring a coffee mug or tumbler. This not only prevents you from several refills due to the small cups provided on board but it also allows you to carry that baby around wherever you venture off to.

  2. Wine-Champagne-pop or water. Most cruise lines will allow you to bring a select amount on board with you. This is also a great way to save money!

  3. Sun screen!!! Bring it and lather up BEFORE getting on the ship! The sun rays are bright and when I say bright, I mean it. You do not want to get burnt on the first day of your trip.

  4. Cash- Gratuities are optional when cruising but they will be tacked on at the end if you did not pay ahead of time. Your gratuities however, do not cover your room steward. It is also great to have cash for your ports instead of using your card.

  5. Extra power strips- Although I have had plenty of outlet room on my ships, if you have several travelers in your stateroom, this is an option so that everyone can charge their devices.

  6. Nausea medicine!! Let me repeat that one.. NAUSEA MEDICINE! Even if you feel like you will be fine, bring it!

  7. Ear plugs or headphones

  8. Passports, ID’s, Birth-certificates!!

  9. Warm jacket- it can get a little chilly on a cruise, bring a hoodie, jacket or pull over.

  10. Pack lightly. Honestly, my last cruise I over packed when really I only needed a nice outfit for captains dinner, a couple pairs of shorts and shirts, night outfits and bathing suits/coverups.

    For flights:

    1. Bring a small pillow- The windows are nice and all but you do not always want to lay on your neighbor. 😉

    2. Bring a blanket- My experience, is that it tends to get a little chilly on the airplane.

    3. Chew gum or candy- The take off and landing tend to make my ears pop but not horribly!
